Born Maasai Sekeyan works in close to nature. In his early life he, like all Maasai boys grassed the cattle in the wilderness. He holds NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) certificate. He was awarded with a diploma in First Aid (Wilderness First Responder), Heart server (CPR), Wilderness Crisis Management and Rescue. He has over 18 long years experience working in the outdoor as specialist for Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru climbing as well as walking safaris, game viewing safaris and cultural tourism in Kenya and Tanzania with particular interest to Maasailand.

Sekeyan climbed Kilimanjaro over a 100 times. He made a remarkable worldwide reputation and the trips he led never stop telling us the truth about his performance as a guide which made their success into 98 percent summiting Mount Kilimanjaro. In addition he holds a certificate in Wildlife Management and Tourism Services from the Mweka Collage of Wildlife Management. He attended business entrepreneurship course at the University of Madison, Wisconsin in the United Sates of America.

He worked on Wild Africa documentary film filmed by BBC and Discovery Channels about Kilimanjaro and its surrounding areas. He also led a filming program of NBC. He worked with a Paralympian world star athlete Chris Waddell doing a documentary film about ‘One Revolution’ Kilimanjaro climb. Alexander Lemunge

Onesmo Gabriel

Alex is one of the founding directors of East African Voyage. Born in Kilimanjaro region he led over 150 Kilimanjaro successful ascents since 1994. An avid naturalist fluent in English, Kiswahili, Chagga and Maasai he loves sharing stories.

He is an excellent climbing trip leader with the deep love for Kilimanjaro. In 1997 Alex traveled to the USA to become a certified Wilderness First Responder and CPR Emergency Cardiac Care Provider. During his stay in the US he attended leadership training with NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) in Wyoming State.

His experience in High Altitude Physiology and rock climbing is unmatched. He attended an interpretation course conducted by Richard Estes who is a well known researcher, conservationist and writer who has been doing field work in Africa since 1963. Alex also holds a certificate in wilderness from College of Wildlife Management at Mweka, Tanzania. He has been lecturing various Government institutions on travel safety. He travelled to Russia, South Africa and Europe to attended international travel fairs.


Onesmo is the founding director of East African Voyage. He has summitted Kilimanjaro more than 100 times, and guided safaris for almost a decade. He has the hands on experience you want from a guide. Onesmo is also one of the most qualified wilderness and EMT experts that you will find leading tours in any of the world's most exciting and dynamic areas of travel. Onesmo holds Wilderness First Responder Certification and Advanced Adventure Travel Guide training from the National Outdoor Leadership Schools (NOLS). He also holds certificates from Wilderness Medicine Society, Mt. Kilimanjaro Land Use and Environmental Management and has taken courses offered by the French Embassy, and the Red Cross, including CPR among others. He attended business entrepreneur program at Madison University in USA a program that immensely helped him set up East African Voyage. Onesmo is skilled at negotiating both the physical terrain of East Africa and the personal terrain of working with production groups, deadlines and professionals in the media world. He has guided ABC and BBC film crews producing documentaries about climbing Kilimanjaro and wilderness safaris in Tanzania's northern game reserves. He also acted in ‘Taking the Flak’ (comedy movie) as a Police officer. His film contacts have brought him to the United States and Canada, and he maintains an extended network of close friends from around the world. He has visited over 30 states and given lectures on African culture and outdoor adventures American universities.

Onesmo grew-up in two worlds; as a Maasai and as ‘civilized’ man. He feels like an Ambassador of both worlds. He believes that travelling makes the world a better place.


Nadine Veillette

Nadine Veillette was born in Canada where she studied to become a geophysicist and since then she has been working in some of the most difficult conditions. From airborne survey in the Canadian Arctic, to the Sahara Desert, she also worked on mining exploration project, collecting rocks through the thick Equatorial Forests of Central Africa. She seems to have the permanent urge to discover new places, it is very difficult to keep her for more then one month in the same country. 

Passionnate for outdoors and adventure trips for her camping is a live style and her version of luxury camping usually is not a standard for the majority. She has visited more then 20 different countries and is our Africa specialist since she has spend time in Tunisia, Morocco, Gabon, Congo, Botswana, South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia.

Even though she is leaving off her suitcase, she has a special bond for Tanzania where she always come back to.

Nadine is working on developing new adventure itineraries away from the beaten track. With a natural attraction for areas of very rich geology history, she always have the heaviest backpack has she cannot help but collecting rocks on the way.

With a strong background in forest orientation, she has made course for gps, maps and orientation. She is also the one developing all the computer graphic and generally the one organizing the anything related to computers or electronic equipment.

Her rock collection is about 4 times her own weight but for her the geological structure is the purest expression of nature and a story teller of the events that sculpted the landscape of Tanzania.



Julie Veillette was born in 1977 and grew in Canada. She is very implicated in human rights issues with interest in defence right. She is a graduate lawyer from Canada. She came to Tanzania  to work for UN-International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR).

She loves travelling and share culture experiences. She lived and studied in countries such as Holland, Ireland, Tunisia, France and USA. At early age she was a fan of water; she is now a qualified Beach Lifeguard and work as a swimming instructor in Québec. She also trained diving, particularly in the Indian Ocean where the marine life is colourful, intensive and lively.

Julie is an engine immensely propelling East African Voyage. She works tirelessly to oversee office development and is coordinating different outreach project of company. Her legal background and her knowledge of business structure are the greatest endowments to East African Voyage which give the company a solid administrative ground as well as to plan different and new adventures and climbs in East Africa.

Coming from the French Canadian side of Canada, Québec, Julie developed unmatched taste for wine and fine food. She works closely with the cooks to develop nice surprise tastes while using East African Voyage on safari and on climbs. The fresh taste of Africa while enjoying the wild nature.

She is married to Onesmo Gabriel, one of the foundering directors of the company. They have a beautiful young daughter call Siyana that can be seen on the picture

Kapanya Kitaba

Kapanya Kitaba was born in South West Tanzania in 1958. After secondary education and compulsory National Service he was employed by the Tanzanian Wildlife Division. He was appointed to the rank of the Manager of Rungwa Game Reserve in Central Tanzania which he managed for six long years. He latter enrolled at Mweka Collage of Wildlife. The collage later employed him as a Lecturer. At the same time he was Manager of Mount Meru Forest Reserve and Kwa Kuchinja Wildlife Migratory Corridor.

He holds Wilderness First Responder Certification and Advanced Adventure Travel Guide certificates. His father and grandfather were herbalists and used to climb Mount Rungwe in Tanzania to pray and collect medicinal plants. As he grew older he accompanied them on the collecting expeditions. Coming from this adventure background, he is the greatest trip leader in butterfly, birds and botany safaris.

Through climbing he travelled to Russia and USA. He led climbing trips on Mount Elbrus-Russia. He studied technical climbing in Washington State where he trained on Mount Becker doing Ice climb, while was walking with Mountain Madness in Seattle. He enjoys leading trips to the roof of Africa. He led over 1,000 successful climbers of Mount Kilimanjaro and Meru. He comes to East African Voyage Company with immense experience. We are greatly honored to have Kapanya with us…….. He is known as a Man of the People’ perhaps springing from his charm and endless smiles and support.

Like all of our trip leaders Kapanya worked with internationally reputed film production companies such as the BBC, NBC and National Geographic Society.



Born on April 14th, 1964 Erasto is a veteran adventure specialist in Tanzania. He graduated in 1995 in Wildlife Management at Mweka Collage of Wildlife Management on the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. He was a high school educator in the early 1990s, and prior to that in late 1980s he was Kiswahili lecturer for foreigners at Lutheran Junior Seminary Language School in East Tanzania, making him unexcelled in guiding experience particularly with group with children. Erasto has been giving excellent cultural presentation on Maasai while dressed up in Maasai. This won him the price as it became the reason for his occasional shuttle to United States of America, Europe and Australia to present papers in various universities and institutions. He is an occasional Guest speaker of Perdue University in Ameria as well as Manchester College.

He also taught in T-ton Science School in Wyoming as well as Archer Girls’ School in Los Angeles. He is an occasional Guest Speaker at San Diego Zoo, California. He worked with Serena as Guests Relation Manager and a Naturalist. He has been in the army, national service which adds up to his fitness in all outdoor activities. He worked with National Geographic as Expedition Manager of their trips in Tanzania.




Erasto Mollel

Yasuko Ogushi - Japanese Speaking

Yasuko Ogushi was born in Japan. After travelling through different countries in Africa, she came to Tanzania where she did her master in biology at Mweka college.

Yasuko has done lots of research in the National Park of Tanzania on the animal life.

Yasuko has join East African Voyage as the Asian Operation Director and is in charge of all the operations with the asian clients. With her adventage on communication, she accompagnied the groups as the japanese trip leader.




An adept of adventure and travelling, Sylvester have been one of the most successful tour leaders in the tourism and safari industry in Tanzania and East Africa. He was born and raised on the shores of Lake Victoria, the biggest shallow lake on earth.

He studied Diploma in Tourism & Business Studies at the Institute of Commercial Management in Bournemouth, England. Sylvester holds a certificate in Tour Guiding from the Nairobi-based Air Travel & Tours Training College. He is fluent in Kiswahili and English. He attended language course at Nagoya Language School in Nagoya, Japan and he teaches Japanese. Coming from the same ethnic group as the father of the 44th American President, Barack Obama, Sylvester is fluent in Luo. East African Voyage is highly honored to have him as one of its precious human resources.

With his leadership skills besides good sense of humor, he perfectly and successfully guided safaris for over ten years in both Tanzania and Kenya. Travelling with him totally make your safari or climb adventurous, fun and memorable leaving you longing for the next trip. At high school he was a leader of Wildlife Club. He regularly organizes soil erosion prevention and tree planting activities. Very cautious on environment he constantly keeps advising people on the benefits of not destroying nature for posterity.





Sylvester Migunga - Japanese Speaking

James Mattu is a Tanzania born in 1979. He was educated in Kenya. He is an experienced Guide and has taken different first aid courses at high level, Wilderness First Responder. He studied at Airie Backcountry Medicine first aid school in Montana USA.

He participated in BBC Taking the Flak filming programme as a crew and also as a star as well as leading the CNBC Mountain Filming Program which was live broadcasted worldwide for the first time from Mount Kilimanjaro.

James led as our trip leader various trips to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro with 99 percent summit record. Meanwhile James is Counselor and Educator on HIV/AIDS Awareness Programme. James love soccer and he plays. At high school he was the top scorer in football in all secondary ball games of Central Province, Kenya. He was employed by Sher Agency Football Club.

Sylvester Geay - French Speaking

Born in 1985 in Northern Tanzania, Sylvester trained as a professional tour guide after high school. He holds a high class driving license. He worked for numerous tour operating companies taking their clients to the world famous Serengeti National Park. He recently joined East African Voyage as a driver-guide bringing with him to the company a lot of charm and tireless quest for leaning. He trained first aid kit as well as going through safe driving courses in Arusha. He is fluent in English and French.
