About Us / Bios:

East African Voyage is a rarity in Africa. We are Tanzanian owned and operated. We believe that this does give us an edge over other companies. We grew up with this land, these mountains, and these magnificent animals all around us, and that is the first and most lasting feeling you'll get when you come on a Safari with us. We know Tanzania better than anyone.

East African Voyage has been our dream for the last decade. Finally, after serving many hundreds of visitors and friends, we were able to incorporate our own company and offer the personal service that we have always considered our strongest point of recommendation. We are Onesmo Gabriel and Sekeyan Godson -- below are our stories:

Onesmo Gabriel:

Onesmo has summitted Kilimanjaro more than 90 times, and guided safaris for almost a decade. He has the hands on experience you want from a guide. Onesmo is also one of the most qualified wilderness and EMT experts that you will find leading tours in any of the world's most exciting and dynamic areas of travel. Onesmo holds Wilderness First Responder Certification and Advanced Adventure Travel Guide training from the National Outdoor Leadership Schools (NOLS). He also holds certificates from Wilderness Medicine Society, Mt. Kilimanjaro Land Use and Environmental Management and has taken courses offered by the French Embassy, and the Red Cross, including CPR among others.

Onesmo is skilled at negotiating both the physical terrain of East Africa and the personal terrain of working with production groups, deadlines and professionals in the media world. He has guided ABC and BBC film crews producing documentaries about climbing Kilimanjaro and wilderness safaris in Tanzania's northern game reserves. His film contacts have brought him to the United States on a number of occasions, and he maintains an extended network of close friends. Onesmo has visited over 30 states and given lectures on African culture and outdoor adventures at a number of American universities.

GODSON SEKEYAN BIOGRAPHY

I was born and raised in the wilderness life – the "Maasai life" so I am drawn to work in an environment close to nature, and help people to know much about my country and my traditions as possible. I have a feeling that I am supposed to participate fully in building my country’s economy.

If you travel with me and my company you will come away with a total feeling of contributing to Tanzania and its people, and a sense for the delicate and unique traditions in which Onesmo and I were raised.

I spend over 14 years of my age grazing the cattle in the Wilderness to support my family and education. Now I have moved to the other side of life to support my society and the whole country by doing the tourism business, which is sustainable and educational for visitors; my work is very much my life.

I have over 15 years experience working in the outdoors, (not counting 14 years of herding cattle, of course!). I have worked as an outdoor specialist for Kilimanjaro Climbing, Mount Meru Climbing, Walking Safaris, Game Viewing Safaris and Cultural Tourism in the Maasai lands as well.

I have climbed Kilimanjaro over a hundred times...more than that... hundreds of times, I led a lot of walking safaris and game viewing safaris in a Northern Circuit of Tanzania (Serengeti, Manyara, Ngorongoro, Tarangire, Arusha National Park etc), I made a remarkable reputation world wide and my clients never stop telling me the truth about my performance as a guide which made their success into 98% in sumitting Kilimanjaro and also increases my awareness of what visitors look for, and seek when they come to Tanzania.

I did my training with NOLS( National Outdoor Leadership School). I acquired the diploma in First Aid( WFR), Heart server(CPR), Wilderness Crisis Management and Rescue.

Also I completed a course in the College of African Wildlife Management (Mweka) in
Tanzania, where I was awarded a certificate in Wildlife Management and Tourism
Services. I was recently lucky enough to attend a three month business course at the University of Madison, Wisconsin, which helped to develop our ideas for this unique and exciting company.

I love my country from the highest point of Africa "Kilimanjaro" to the planes of Serengeti down the indian ocean Zanzibar & Mafia Islands and I would love to show you around and give you access to our world.

I speak fluent English, Kiswahili and my Mother tongue "Maa" maasai.

I also welcome the photographic companies (and individuals interested in photography) to travel with me as I am knowledgeable in the field. I just worked on the documentary of Wild Africa which was organized with BBC and Discovery Channels about Kilimanjaro and its surroundings. I have recently begun filming and producing my own videos (www.naomba.com/video/video.asp)

Alexander Lemunge

I am a native of Kilimanjaro region and I have guided over 150 Kili ascents since 1994. An avid naturalist fluent in English, Kiswahili, Chagga and Maasai I love sharing stories of growing up in the really African life. I am an excellent climbing guide with the deep love for Kilimanjaro. In 1997 I traveled to the USA to become a certified Wilderness First Responder and CPR Emergency Cardiac Care Provider. During my stay in US I attended leadership training with NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) the course was OEC (Outdoor Educator Course).

I have also attended several other courses with NOLS in East Africa. I have studied a lot about High Altitude Physiology and rock climbing. I have attended an interpretation course conducted by Richard Estes who is well known researcher, conservationist and writer who has been doing field work in Africa since 1963. He has published numerous articles in such magazine as Natural History, Frontiers, Smithsonian and National Geographic and his books include The Behavior Guide to African Mammals, the recent Audubon Society Field Guide to African (co-author) and The Safari Companion. I took two weeks course in College of Africa Wildlife Management at Mweka, Tanzania. Now I am studying at Open University of Dar es Salaam taking a degree on BA Tourism.
