EQUIPMENTS LIST
Kilimanjaro Climb
The following equipments list is very important for you
to stay comfortable during the climb:
Sleeping gears:
Sleeping bag and stuff sack: its should be as a low a s
zero Fahrenheit
Sleeping pad/mattress: Full length Thermoare-Rest or equivalent
Head and face:
-Pile or wool hat: it must cover the years, balaclava works
well.
-shade hat: a good brim hat to protect you from the sun.
-bandannas: use to clean glasses, protect your neck from
sun bun when tied around.
-sun glasses with shields or glacier glasses
Upper Body
T- shirts: two to three t shirt that will get dirty, polypropylene
material is the best, no cotton.
-upper body Layers: Three warm layers that must fit over
each other and provide good insulation, they should made
with wool, polypropylene or pile materials. Cotton should
be avoided
-Rain parka: gortex material or nylon and it has to be
waterproof
-Poncho: a quick handy protection for yur body and day
pack, poor protection in windy rain.
- wool gloves or mittens
-Mitten shells: one pair to go over mittens to provide
protection from the wind and rain at higher altitudes on
the mountain.
Lower Body
-Undergarments: adequate supply for the entire climb.
-hiking shorts: One pair of a quick dry short, good to
hike in the lower elevations on the mountain.
-tights: comfortable to hike in.
-long underwear bottoms: one pair, has to be wool or polypropylene.
-pile, bunting or wool pants: one pair that fit loosely
over the long underwear bottoms
-rain pants : gortex or nylon material comfortable and
has to be breathable.
Feet
-Thin socks: two pair of polypropylene material to wear
under the heavy wool socks its help to prevent blisters
and keep the feet dry.
-Thick socks: Six pair of heavy wool or polypropylene socks.
-gaiters: one pair of high gaiters made of breathable material
-tennis shoes: to wear in camp after a day of hiking.
Personal Healthy and comfort
-Toiletry: tooth brush and paste, comb, shampoo, tampons,
foot powder, hands cream, etc
-sunscreen:
-lip balm: must have SPF 15 or more.
-ear plug
-flash light/ head lamp: bring extra batteries
-adjustable ski poles: it is required to assist during
the descent, “it a must” not optional!
-Pocket knife
-personal first aid and drug kit “Very important”
-towel: for wash up in camp
- Towelettes - individually wrapped anti-bacterial towels
are great for general hygiene
- Spare contact or glasses. Contact can be a problem in
a dusty condition; glasses wearers should have a spare set.
-snacks (optional): bring a supply of your favorite snacks
to eat on a climb.
-plastic sandwich bags: keeps personal Items separate and
dry
Water:
-Water bottles: two to three of one quartz/ One little
size bottle with an open mouth are more comfortable, has
to be made up of a hard plastic as it can be applied sometimes
to warm up your sleeping bag in a cold weather.
-Water treatment tablets
-Water flavoring : Tang, gatoraid, lemonade make the treated
water test better.
Carrying Gear:
-Large day pack: Check for a comfortable one, that can
carry 15 to 20 pounds, this will be applicable in carrying
your personal items such as, water bottles,extra clothing,
snacks, camera etc..
-large duffel bag with lock: this is for carrying all your
mountain gears, your duffel will be packed into the group
porter duffel bag, the weight should be 30 to 35 lbs.
- medium duffel bag: to store your non mountain gears.
-baggage tags: make easly identification of your bag at
the airport
-plastic bags: sleeping bag and clothes will be double bagged
while on the mountain for protection from the afternoon
rain, heavy duty garbage bag will work better.
